One World Project's Mission

Our non-profit organisation’s mission is to connect adventurous and open-hearted travellers from around the world with underserved communities in Kenya. By doing so, we seek to provide these regions with some much-needed resources and volunteer support. That helps them improve their living conditions and overall quality of life.

How do we do this?

By creating development projects and volunteering opportunities in close collaboration with local grassroots and non-profit organizations. However, the beating heart of every project is the volunteers! Their contribution allows us to provide these communities with the tools to thrive.

Through these close interactions, we hope to enrich the lives of volunteers and community members while creating more kindness in the world.

Why volunteer with One World Projects?

All-Inclusive Guidance & Support

We provide everything you need to ensure a smooth volunteer travel experience. From training and preparing for your trip to airport pick-up/drop-off, accommodation, meals, and more. Our team will make sure you are taken care of every step of the way.

Respectful Volunteer Practices

Our development projects are in partnership with local communities. They are only approved if they are recognized as being beneficial to the critical needs of the community they support.

We have a strict set of guidelines to ensure that all One World Project members are respectful towards community members, volunteers, and their needs.

Fees Transparency

We are 100% transparent with how we spend our fees.

90% of each project fee goes directly toward the local community and microeconomy. That occurs through payments to the hosting families, local staff, and project growth and support investments.

Safety & Security

Every project and hosting family must pass regular screenings to ensure they are suitable and 100% safe for volunteers. We also verify that they are responsible members of society and positively impact their local communities.

More questions about us

As an organization, we are unequivocally focused on channelling the collective support of volunteers from around the world to contribute to local communities. In other words, we are not interested in the profit. Any surplus of funds is invested into the growth of our local partnerships. They are used to strengthen our initiatives committed to stabilizing the microeconomy.

To make this possible, 90% of our project fees are allocated toward community projects (the remaining 10% covers international money transfer costs).

To break this down, a portion of our project fee will be used to invest in supplies and resources for our project. This could include buying materials, paying local teachers and construction workers, etc. Another part will go directly towards the hosting families and local workers. By distributing our funds this way, we create a flow of capital toward local communities that sustainably improves their daily living conditions.

We understand that volunteering abroad can feel like a scary experience, especially if you are on your own. That’s why we are right beside you, guiding you every step of the way—from your application to your trip back to the airport.

After applying, you will receive access to an e-learning platform that provides you with the following:

  • Step-by-step detailed guidance on everything you need to prepare for your trip. Necessities such as arranging you visa, Criminal Background Check, Travel Insurance, Flights etc.
  • Interactive training on how to stay safe while in Kenya.
  • Training on how to be a responsible and impactful volunteer.
  • A guide with all the details for your chosen project.

Our project manager is always available to answer any questions and provide the guidance you need to make your trip rewarding and enjoyable. They will also check all your papers to ensure you have everything ready for a smooth trip to Kenya.

Once in Kenya, our local partner is responsible for every step of the way, including an experienced project manager available to you 24/7. They are there to provide you support with anything related to the project, accommodation, or to give you recommendations for how to enjoy your free time.

Kenya is one of the most stable countries in Africa, where English is an official language spoken by almost everyone. An explorer once said its people are “as warm and welcoming as their sun”. It is a place where people from different ethnic backgrounds live together, including the well-known Maasai community.

While volunteering, you will live with locals. You will be humbled by the simplicity in their lives and their gratitude for your presence there. You’ll experience a life entirely different from what you know back home. Their welcoming and warm character will touch your heart and make this one of your life’s most extraordinary and transformative experiences.

Kenya is also home to some of the world’s most breathtaking natural beauties, hosting more than 45 national parks. It offers excellent safari opportunities where you can spot the big 5. It has a tropical climate, beautiful coastlines, white sandy beaches, and blue waters. All these you’ll be able to explore during your free time or before/after your volunteering experience.

At One World Projects, our number one focus is supporting local communities through volunteering projects. As a result, we do everything we can to keep our prices low. This includes working as a small group with low overhead costs.

We are humble people (some of us previous volunteers) that want to have a real, honest, and lasting impact on small, local communities around Kenya. At the same time, we want to allow people to participate in this through their volunteer opportunities.

Another way that we can keep costs low is by collaborating primarily with local organizations. That way, we are maximizing the capital absorbed by the local community.

Through our projects, we effectively contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.

These goals are the backbone of the international effort to achieve a prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable future for the planet and its people. They are an urgent call for action, calling everyone to do their part in this global effort.

Each of our projects implements solutions and takes action towards at least one of these goals. As we recognize the interconnection of all 17 SDGs, we aim to include them in our efforts as we produce more projects and improve the current ones.
